POWERS AND ABILITIES:

1) A bow that is sharp enough, at the curves, to be used as a double-ended sword

1. Standard red arrows with a 75 cm to 90 cm shaft, steel heads and plastic fletching
2. Flash grenade arrows
3. Phantom Zone Arrow (originally used in a failed attempt to imprison Superboy-Prime but now, somewhat comically, used to store her things...like a portable locker)
4. Cable arrow (allows Mia to zip-line from where she shot the arrow to where the arrow hits)

HISTORY:
She is a teenager who was horribly abused by her father, to a point where she became a runaway. Unable to survive on her own, she fell in love with a man who offered her both shelter and food but only if he could exploit her in a child prostitution ring. It was actually through this ring that Mia ended up developing HIV. One of her clients, a depraved local politician, began to be abusive to her yet Mia was saved by the Green Arrow. Since that moment Dearden constantly tried to convince Oliver "Ollie" Queen (Green Arrow's real identity) to let her be his sidekick even though he always refused since he didn't want to bring another youth into harms way.
This however changed when Mia took a test and was proven positive of HIV. This redoubled her efforts to convince Green Arrow to let her become the new Speedy, since her HIV made her more determined than ever to do something special with her life. It was also due to this that Green Arrow finally relented and allowed her to become the new Speedy. While under his wing Arrow taught Mia archery while also getting her to learn martial arts under loads of the top martial artists across the world.
After experiences with the Teen Titans, Superboy-Prime (where she found out about her Plasma Zone Arrow), Green Arrow's thirst of revenge and the Legion of Doom...Mia has decided to be a solo hero and after saying goodbye to her mentor Ollie, she left him to begin her life as the newest, and purely independent, heroine that'll save the innocent while punishing the evil.
Well that was the plan...however just a few weeks into this plan and Dearden found out how difficult this could be. Not only did she have criminals to handle but she also has to do a multitude of jobs to pay rent, as well as afford her antiretroviral drugs. With each passing day Mia began more and more doubtful about being able to stay with her superhero life.
This however changed when one night, while stopping a bank heist, Speedy met up with Caitlin Fairchild. At first the two almost got into their own fight but fortunately the two of them remembered about the villains and successfully captured them before tying them up and leaving them to the police.
