WE ARE MAVERICK, WE WON’T GIVE IN UNTIL WE WIN THIS GAME | |
name Reason tagged Peach Gelato words 479 notes First time in years I've written anything for Megan...and really struggled xD At least I got it in the Prime word limit though. | CRACK! Rewind… CRACK! Rewind… CRACK! Again and again I rewind and again and again I see the footage of Dominic Sanders cracking me in the face with a steel chair. Almost as if trapped in the illusion of if I see it enough times then maybe the result would be different…but it is such a foolish endeavour. I know that Dominic hit me in the head with that chair, did something else and won the match. I couldn’t remember anything about the night that happened after that chairshot and, truth be told, that terrified me… It still somewhat terrifies me now. Even though that match, my last match, was three years ago…could it have been this fear of everything suddenly going black with no way back that kept me away from the ring? Has my previous time away dullen the edge of my desire to return? Could it be that I’ve gotten settled into a life where I’ve got nothing left to prove to anyone? Or may- “Mummy!” Crap, Sarah’s here! Gotta quickly turn this off! Phew, managed to turn the screen off before my darling eleven year old could see me getting my head smashed in. “Anything wrong?” “Nothing wrong! I wanna play Smash Brothers and Mommy told me her hands are too sore!” I couldn’t help but sigh lightly…a typical Shannon excuse. Then again I don’t think Shannon expected Sarah to be into her games like I am as I spot the two Nintendo Switches in my daughter’s hands. “Okay, okay, let’s play.” I say while accepting one of the handhelds before we start playing together…and by playing together I completely mean Sarah beating me down like I owe her money. Jesus, when did she get so good so fast? Though at least some mercy came when, halfway through the tenth straight ass kicking, my little girl suddenly paused the game. “Mummy…” “What’s wrong?” “Oh, there is nothing wrong…I was just wondering…is it true that you’re going to wrestle again?” “Well…yeah I am…so I’ll be away for quite a while again and won’t be around to take you to, or pick you up from, school…” “That’s awesome.” Wait…what? “I enjoy watching you wrestle Mummy. You always appear so brave and awesome every time I see you on TV and it’ll be so cool to watch you again.” “Yes, it’ll be cool.” “You promise?” “I promise.” I say with a smile as I ruffle Sarah’s hair. Her giggle is always lovely to hear. Yeah my edge may have dulled, and perhaps I’ll never be the wrestler I once was, but seeing my little Sarah smile - and becoming her on-screen hero again - is more than a good enough reason to shake any doubts from my head and get back inside the squared circle. Though I’ll make extra sure to improve my Smash skills while on the road… |
